Harrow shortlisted for Award
Harrow Estates is shortlisted for ‘Best use of a combination of remediation techniques’ in the 2008 Brownfield Briefing Awards
Harrow Estates was delighted to be shortlisted for its entry in the category ‘Best use of a combination of remediation techniques’ at the prestigious 2008 Brownfield Briefing Awards, held on Tuesday 16th September in London.
The joint submission was made with project partners Wardell Armstrong and Vertase FLI and featured the remediation works carried out on a 6.5ha former chemical and tar distillation works in Cadishead, Salford. The site had a long history of contamination and is situated in a densely populated area.
A record number of entries were received for this year’s awards and the Cadishead site was one of only three shortlisted for the category which was won in the end by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Judges commended the project for its imaginative, well-planned solution and for overcoming formidable challenges in controlling off-site vapour migration.
Mark Nicholls, Technical Director of Harrow Estates commented, “The Cadishead scheme is an excellent example of working in partnership to deliver complex brownfield sites and the judges’ comments reflect this. To be shortlisted from such a large number of excellent entries for this year’s awards only to lose out to the Olympics is a great achievement for us.”
