Bat House Award at Sudbrook

A purpose built bat house was required to offset bat roosts in the former Paper Mill building at Sudbrook prior to demolition. This was constructed by the team at Harrow. The success of this structure in providing suitable habitats for breeding has now been recognised. The project was Highly Commended as a Legacy project for the CIRIA BIG Biodiversity Challenge Awards.

Additionally, it won the Best Practice large Mitigation Award from CIEEM (The Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management). This recognised the mitigation work that Harrow put in and Redrow have carried through. Arcadis were retained to continue to monitor the work over the years to demonstrate its success. Well done to all involved!

In 2020 it was confirmed lesser horseshoe bats are breeding in the bat house, and the hibernacula remain optimal.
